Luiz Carlos Trabuco Cappi, The Force Behind The Revolution Of Bradesco

Luiz Carlos Trabuco Cappi was born in Marilia and is married, with three children. Unlike the other banker executives who graduate with degrees in economics, administration, engineering, and accounting, he graduated Luiz Carlos Trabuco Cappi graduated with a degree philosophy from the University of Sao Paulo. He later did his postgraduate degree in socio-psychology at the School of Sociology and Politics of Sao Paulo.


In 1943, Amador Aguiar opened Bradesco’s first branch office in Marilia. In 1971, Luiz Carlos Trabuco Cappi moved to work at its headquarters at Sao Paulo. He never stopped to grow career-wise, in 1984; he was appointed the director of marketing. He served as the executive vice- president of Bradesco’s private pension company as from 1992 up to 1998. In 1999, Luiz Carlos Trabuco Cappi became the executive deputy president. He became the president of the insurance company in 2003, a position he has held up to 2009.

Luiz Carlos Trabuco Cappi Takes Over the Presidency of Bradesco

In March 2009, when Luiz Carlos Trabuco Cappi took over the presidency, the bank had fallen behind its rival, Itau Unibanco. The first thing he did was ruling out a run for the first place in the banking rankings. He had a goal of doing the best job in each municipality the company served.

August 2015 saw Luiz Carlos Trabuco Cappi make one of the boldest moves ahead of Bradesco. With the backing of the chairman of the board, Lazaro Brandao, he purchased HSBC’S Brazilians branch for $5.2 billion, the most expensive business in Brazil in 2015. This acquisition made Bradesco and HSBC make Banco de Deus bank outperform Itau Unibanco in their fundamental aspects; the number of account holders, branch network and total investment funds. It is also close to rivaling Itau in other sectors such as assets, granted loans, and deposits.

Acquisition of HSBC helped Bradesco conquer the market at once, a step that would take them about six years if they depended on organic growth. For this particular reason, Luiz Carlos Trabuco Cappi was nominated and won the Entrepreneur of the Year in the Finance by MONY. A president of an institution such as Bradesco in Brazil is an influential person because these people undergo a strict scrutiny and are the brains behind some of the most significant financial projects in the country. Mr. Luiz Carlos Trabuco Cappi lead the Bradesco Seguros, an area that contributed to around 30% of the profit Bradesco made up to date. After sitting on the topmost helm of the company, he created a corporate university and started to find the renewal of leadership cadres, engaging executives from all bank levels. In a bid to show the success of this, he established rituals to those who rose up the ranks. One of the critical parts of renovation that Mr. Luiz Carlos Trabuco Cappi promoted was the search for market professionals. He was considered to take over the Ministry of Finance but turned down the invitation because his destiny lies with Bradesco.
